Service Content

The China-Central Asia Railway Express is an international rail intermodal train service between China and the five Central Asian countries as well as countries along the Belt and Road. Operating on fixed train numbers, fixed routes, and fixed schedules, it transports containerized cargo from major Chinese cities via land corridors to Central Asian countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Compared with sea freight, the China-Central Asia Railway Express offers faster transit times; compared with air freight, it is more cost-effective, making it an important transport choice for export trade and imports from Central Asia.

The China-Central Asia Railway Express mainly exits via the Alashankou and Horgos border ports, connecting markets in Central Asia and West Asia; via the Erenhot border port, it can link to Mongolia; and via border ports such as Pingxiang and Shanyao, it can extend to Southeast Asia and South Asia. With multiple border ports and corridors, the train route selection is flexible.

How to Choose the Right Container Type?

20GP: Suitable for heavy cargo (cargo weighing >250kg per m³), such as stone, steel, tiles, and hardware. The 20GP has a weight limit of 28 tons but a volume of only 33.2m³, meaning heavy cargo often hits the weight limit before filling the volume.

40GP: Suitable for cargo with large volume but moderate weight, such as furniture, appliances, daily necessities, and textiles. With a volume of 67.7m³, double that of the 20GP, the 40GP is the most economical single-container option for cargo with medium density. Note that the 40GP has a higher tare weight and a maximum payload of about 26.5 tons, roughly 1.5 tons less than the 20GP.

40HQ: 30cm taller than the 40GP (2.896m vs 2.591m), making it ideal for most boxed cargo and standard machinery. With a volume of 76.4m³, it offers nearly 9m³ more space than the 40GP. Suitable for shelves, large equipment, or cargo requiring two or more layers of pallet stacking.

Container Selection Tip: Unsure which container type to use? A simple rule — if total cargo weight is <20 tons and total volume is >40m³, choose 40GP; if total weight is >20 tons and volume is <25m³, choose 20GP; for cargo height exceeding 2.3m, choose 40HQ.
