Loading of Bagged Cargo in Container Sea Freight
As one of the main methods for transporting bulk cargo, container sea freight is favored for its efficiency and safety. Bagged goods, such as grain, chemical raw materials, and building materials, require specific procedures and techniques during loading due to their characteristics to ensure cargo safety, maximize space utilization, and comply with international transport standards. The following provides guidance on loading and precautions for bagged cargo in container sea freight.
1. Preparation Before Loading
- Select the appropriate container: Choose the suitable container type, such as general purpose (GP), reefer (RF), or open top (OT), according to the cargo type, quantity, and environmental requirements (e.g., need for ventilation).
- Cleaning and inspection: Thoroughly clean the interior of the container before loading, check for any damage or leakage, ensure the container structure is intact, and that the door seals are effective.
- Padding and separation: To prevent cargo movement and protect the container floor, lay wooden boards or specialized anti-slip mats on the bottom. For cargo of different batches or properties, use separation nets or partitions for effective segregation.
2. Loading Techniques and Precautions
- Even distribution: Plan the stowage layout reasonably, distribute the weight of the cargo evenly inside the container as much as possible, avoid off-center gravity, and reduce the risk of cargo movement and damage during transport.
- Vertical stacking: Bagged goods should be stacked vertically, with wooden strips or plastic pallets used between layers for reinforcement to keep them neat and stable. The stacking height should not exceed 80% of the container's height, leaving top space for lashing and ventilation.
- Lashing and securing: Use ropes, straps, or specialized container locks to horizontally and vertically lash and secure the stacked cargo, ensuring its stability during transport.
- Ventilation and temperature control: For goods that are perishable or sensitive to temperature and humidity, ensure sufficient ventilation openings exist in the container, and take temperature control measures as needed.

Precautions for Loading Bagged Cargo
Use staggered stacking patterns for bagged goods to increase stability. Fill gaps between bagged cargo and container walls with padding to prevent displacement. Loose-bundled bagged cargo requires special reinforcement.
