2. Port of Shanghai

Advantages: The world’s densest shipping route network (300+ routes), with almost daily departures to major European and American ports. Has the most developed hinterland economy (Yangtze River Delta), high customs clearance efficiency, and comprehensive logistics support (free trade zones, bonded areas).

Disadvantages: Overall costs are higher (THC and port charges are on the high side among the three major ports). Yangshan Port’s reliance on the Donghai Bridge may lead to traffic congestion.

Suitable for: Enterprises in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui; first choice for European routes; small batch LCL (less-than-container-load) cargo.

3. Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan

Advantages: Excellent natural conditions (deep-water port capable of berthing 200,000 DWT vessels). Costs are 10%-20% lower than Shanghai Port. High terminal operation efficiency with less congestion.

Disadvantages: Slightly fewer international routes than Shanghai.

Suitable for: Enterprises in Zhejiang, shipments to the Mediterranean/Middle East/Africa, large volume heavy cargo.

4. Port of Shenzhen

Advantages: Close to Hong Kong, offering convenient international transshipment. The preferred choice for South China’s manufacturing base. Yantian Port can berth 200,000 DWT vessels. Mature cross-border e-commerce customs clearance.

Disadvantages: Its southern location leads to high inland transportation costs. Obvious congestion during peak seasons.

Suitable for: South China enterprises (Guangdong/Guangxi/Fujian), shipments to North/South America, cross-border e-commerce sellers.
