Requirements for Loading Container Cargo
1. Proper Weight Distribution
Classify cargo according to its volume, weight, the strength of its outer packaging, and its nature. Place cargo with sturdy packaging and heavier weight at the bottom. Distribute the weight of the cargo evenly across the container floor. Otherwise, the container floor may detach or the bottom rails may bend. If the overall center of gravity of the container shifts, the container may tilt when lifted by spreader claws.
2. Necessary Dunnage for Cargo
When loading cargo, determine the necessary dunnage based on the strength of its packaging. For cargo with fragile packaging or easily damaged goods, insert cushioning material between them to prevent collision and compression. To fill gaps between cargo items or between cargo and container walls, it is necessary to insert dunnage such as boards or coverings.
3. Proper Cargo Securing
Gaps generally exist after cargo is loaded into a container. Due to these gaps, the cargo inside the container must be secured to prevent collapse or breakage during transport, especially at sea due to ship motion.
1) Bracing: Use wooden beams or similar items to support and fix the cargo.
2) Blocking: Use vertical timbers or similar items horizontally between cargo items or between cargo and container walls to secure them, or insert fillers, cushions, wedges, etc., to prevent cargo movement.
3) Lashing: Use ropes, straps, lashings, or similar tools or equipment to tie down the cargo.
4. Proper Cargo Stowage
When mixing cargo, avoid mutual contamination or accidents.
1) Mixing dry and wet cargo.
2) Avoid mixing with strongly odorous cargo or cargo with a pungent smell as much as possible.
3) Avoid mixing with powdery cargo as much as possible.
4) Do not mix different types of dangerous goods.
5) Cargo with different packaging should be loaded separately.
Following the four points above for container cargo loading requirements ensures that the cargo inside the container is more stable, maintaining a low breakage rate.
Basic Requirements for Container Loading
Container loading must meet the following basic requirements: Weight must not exceed the container's maximum payload limit. Cargo weight must be evenly distributed on the container floor. Fill and secure gaps between cargo and container walls. Heavy cargo at the bottom, light cargo on top. Isolate dangerous goods from general cargo. Packaging must be intact and meet transport standards. Use lashing straps, airbags, and other securing materials for reinforcement when necessary.
