What is BV Inspection?

1. BV stands for Bureau Veritas, an internationally renowned inspection agency (similar to SGS). Headquartered in France, it has branches in virtually every country. It primarily offers eight major business segments: classification society, industry, inspection and in-service verification, health, safety and environment, building, certification, consumer goods services, and government services and international trade, of which commodity inspection is only one part. 

When is BV Inspection Required?

1. Currently, BV inspection is mainly required for specific products exported to certain African countries. Without this inspection, customers cannot clear customs and take delivery of goods, such as exports to Angola.

BV Inspection Process

1. Preparations:
   • Confirm Requirements: Understand the import requirements of the destination country and necessary inspection items.
   • Gather Documents: Prepare essential paperwork such as the sales contract, commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading.
   • Prepare Samples: Prepare samples for laboratory testing as required.
2. Apply for Inspection:
   • Log in to the BV official website or contact the local BV office to submit the inspection application.
   • Submit all required documents and information, including product specifications, quantity, and destination.
3. On-Site Inspection / Laboratory Testing:
   • BV inspectors may visit the site and conduct on-site inspections of the goods, including verifying quantity, packaging, and markings.
   • Samples are sent to a BV laboratory for physical, chemical, or other professional testing.
4. Obtain Report:
   • Upon completion, BV issues a detailed inspection report containing the results and a conclusion on whether the products meet the relevant standards.
5. Rectification & Re-inspection (if needed):
   • If the inspection fails, corrective actions must be taken according to the report's findings, followed by a re-application for inspection.
