The China-Europe Railway Express (CRE) is a container international rail intermodal train service organized by China State Railway Group, operating between China and Europe as well as countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative along fixed train numbers, routes, schedules, and full-trip timetables. It serves as an important carrier for deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and partner countries and a key driver for the Belt and Road Initiative.
The CRE refers to the regular container international intermodal rail service between China, Europe, and countries along the Belt and Road. Three main railway corridors have been established: the western corridor connects via the Alataw Pass (Khorgos) railway port in Xinjiang with the railways of Kazakhstan and Russia, passing through Belarus, Poland, and other countries; the central corridor connects via the Erenhot railway port in Inner Mongolia with Mongolia and Russia’s railways, also transiting Belarus, Poland, and others; the eastern corridor connects via the Manzhouli railway port in Inner Mongolia and the Suifenhe railway port in Heilongjiang with Russia’s railways, similarly passing through Belarus, Poland, and on to other European countries.

Diverse routes: The CRE operates multiple routes, with starting points in major Chinese cities such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Hefei, Suzhou, Yiwu, and Guangzhou, arriving at major European cities and countries including Hamburg and Duisburg in Germany, Malaszewicze in Poland, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Dourges in France, and Milan in Italy.
2. Wide variety of transported goods: The CRE carries a broad range of goods, including electronic products, auto parts, machinery and equipment, daily consumer goods, food, chemical products, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.
3. Shorter transit times: Compared to traditional sea freight, the CRE significantly shortens transit times. Typically, trips from major Chinese cities to major European destinations take around 15-20 days, offering customers a faster option.
