Containerized Cargo Handling Methods

I. Full Container Load to Full Container Load (FCL/FCL)

The shipper delivers a full container loaded at the factory or warehouse to the carrier, and the consignee takes delivery of the whole container at the destination.

II. Full Container Load to Less than Container Load (FCL/LCL)

The shipper delivers a full container loaded at the factory or warehouse to the carrier. The carrier opens the container at the destination Container Freight Station or inland depot, after which each consignee takes delivery of their goods against the relevant documents.

III. Less than Container Load to Full Container Load (LCL/FCL)

The shipper delivers small shipments of less than a container load to the carrier at a Container Freight Station or inland depot. The carrier sorts this cargo and consolidates shipments destined for the same consignee into a full container, before delivering it as a full container at the destination.

IV. Less than Container Load to Less than Container Load (LCL/LCL)

The shipper delivers small shipments of less than a container load to the carrier at a Container Freight Station or inland depot. The carrier is responsible for consolidation, packing, and, upon arrival at the destination freight station or inland depot, for deconsolidation. After the container is opened, the consignees take delivery of their goods against the relevant documents. The carrier is responsible for both the packing and unpacking of cargo.
