There are many modes of international logistics transportation, which can be classified according to the transport vehicle and route as follows:
1. InternationalOcean Freight
Ocean transportation uses ships to travel between domestic and foreign ports along specific routes and sea areas. Due to its high capacity, large volume, and relatively low cost, it is the primary mode of international trade transportation. 2/3 of international logistics is completed through ocean freight, and approximately 90% of China‘s import and export goods are delivered via ocean transport.
- Short-sea shipping: Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, etc.
- Deep-sea shipping: Routes to Europe, the Americas, Africa, etc.
2. International Land Transportation
- China-Europe/Central Asia Land Transport: China-Europe trucking, Central Asia trucking, Russia trucking, etc.
- Southeast Asia Land Transport: To Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, etc., via road from Guangxi.
3. Rail Transportation
International rail transportation mainly includes China-Europe Railway Express and China-Central Asia Railway Express.
4. International Air Freight
It has the advantage of high speed and is suitable for time-sensitive, high-value import and export goods.
5. Pipeline Transportation
Liquid and gaseous goods are transported to neighboring countries via pipelines.
6. Postal Transportation
A form of transport service that uses postal authorities as freight forwarders. International postal transportation generally requires the involvement of two or more countries’ post offices and the combination of two or more different modes of transport to provide a ”door-to-door“ service.
When handling international logistics, the appropriate mode of transport should be selected based on factors such as the nature of the goods, distance, urgency, shipment size, cost, and climate conditions.
