1. China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited COSCO China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (abbreviated as COSCO or COSCO Group) was established on April 27, 1961. It is the largest shipping company in mainland China, a mega state-owned enterprise directly under the central government, and one of the world's largest ocean transportation companies. After decades of continuous development and expansion, as of 2020, China COSCO Shipping Corporation operated a fleet with a comprehensive capacity of 105.36 million deadweight tons/1,317 ships, ranking first in the world. Among them, the container ship fleet is 3.07 million TEU/507 ships, ranking third in the world; the dry bulk carrier fleet capacity is 40.22 million deadweight tons/410 ships, the oil tanker fleet capacity is 25.83 million deadweight tons/204 ships, and the general cargo special ship fleet capacity is 4.59 million deadweight tons/162 ships, all ranking first in the world. COSCO is the largest domestic shipping company, owning the most self-owned vessels. Its domestic trade shipping routes are the most comprehensive, covering basically all domestic ports capable of handling container ships. It offers high sailing frequency and competitive pricing. It owns its own barge company and can handle both domestic and international trade. 2. Zhonggu Logistics Zhonggu Logistics Recognized by domestic freight forwarders as a shipping company with good service, high liner punctuality, and standardized procedures. Its main strength lies in South China-Yangtze River Delta routes, especially penetrating feeder ports along the Yangtze River. In recent years, it faced a bankruptcy crisis due to financial missteps by major shareholders and is currently discussing further cooperation with China Merchants and AVIC Trust. 3. Evergreen Marine Corporation Evergreen Marine Evergreen Marine is a container shipping company headquartered in Taoyuan, Taiwan, China. Its main routes are Far East to North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. With 240 ports in 80 countries, it operates about 150 fully cellular container ships. It operates the world's fourth largest container fleet, owning over 190 ships with a total capacity of approximately 850,000 TEUs as of 2009. 4. China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. China Merchants Energy Shipping Founded in 2004, China Merchants Energy Shipping has formed a business structure covering "oil, bulk, gas, and special cargo." As of June 2019, it operated a fleet of 215 vessels (including orders) totaling 37.41 million deadweight tons, ranking among the world's leading shipping companies. Its VLCC and VLOC fleets rank first globally, its ro-ro fleet ranks first domestically, and its LNG business includes conventional LNG carriers and 11 ice-class LNG carriers for the Yamal project. 5. Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (Hong Kong) Orient Overseas Founded in 1947 by Tung Chao-yung (Dong Haoyun), now possesses a fleet of over 150 vessels with a capacity exceeding 10 million deadweight tons. It is one of the world's seven major shipping lines and previously owned the largest ship in shipbuilding history, the Seawise Giant. 6. Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Taiwan, China) Yang Ming Marine Transport Established on December 28, 1972, it has agency offices in all key global regions, offering worldwide shipping services. As of end of December 2006, Yang Ming operated 94 vessels with a capacity of up to 4 million deadweight tons and annual container volume exceeding 2.4 million TEUs. The fleet comprises container ships, bulk carriers, and coal carriers operated on behalf of Taipower. 7. China Shipping Container Lines Co., Ltd. (CSCL) Company Logo Founded on August 28, 1997, as a limited liability company jointly invested by China Shipping (Group) Company, China Shipping Development Company Limited, and Guangzhou Maritime Transport (Group) Co., Ltd. As of June 2011, CSCL owned over 150 ships with a total capacity exceeding 560,000 TEUs, ranking among the top 10 liner companies globally. It operates more than 80 international and domestic container routes covering over 100 countries, with over 300 global agency outlets. 8. Wan Hai Lines Ltd. Wan Hai Lines Established in 1965, it operated 66 fully cellular container ships with cargo capacity exceeding 90,000 TEUs by 2004. Currently, among its 20 active routes, 15 directly connect 43 major international commercial ports, making Wan Hai one of the most comprehensive and dense service networks in Asia. 9. Ningbo Marine Company Limited Ningbo Marine Founded on April 18, 1997, as of end of 2018, the company's total assets reached 6.5 billion RMB and net assets reached 2 billion RMB. It operates a fleet comprising mainly domestic coastal and ocean-going bulk carriers ranging from 20,000 to 75,000 deadweight tons, with a total capacity of 1.5758 million deadweight tons. In recent years, annual cargo volume has exceeded 25 million tons. 10. Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. Ningbo Ocean Shipping Founded in 1992, it currently owns and operates 59 vessels totaling 708,100 deadweight tons/41,000 TEU capacity, including 34 self-owned ships with 440,000 deadweight tons/25,000 TEU capacity. Its major route is South China-Ningbo-Tianjin. While its route network is smaller, it focuses on premium routes with stable pricing and high sailing frequency. 11. SITC International Holdings Co., Ltd. SITC International Founded in 1991, as of December 31, 2019, the company operated 82 container vessels and 6 bulk carriers, with 57 self-owned container vessels and 68 active routes.
